Reiki means "universal life energy". Many cultures dating back to ancient times had the wisdom and knowledge that an unseen energy flows though all living things, and is directly related to the quality of health in life by stimulating vitality and well being. Reiki is an alternative relaxation and healing technique that attempts to equalize the energy imbalances in the body - imbalances that signify physical, emotional pain or spirit accelerating one's ability to heal one's self. Reiki practioner's hands are placed strategically on the body. Reiki's use around the world and in hospitals and medical centers continue to grow.
A reiki treatment is in essence "laying on of the hands" also know n as therapeutic touch. Typically, during a reiki treatment, the client lies down (fully clothed) on a treatment table. Energy is transferred to the client through the hands of the practitioner in a series of standardized positions where the hands are placed. Treatment begins with the clients head, then cover the abdomen area, legs and feet. The client then turns over and the practitioner works from the upper back to the tail bone, ending again with the feet. In each position, the hands are merely rested on the client for 3 to 5 minutes. A full treatment usually takes about an hour.
